Did you know there were two years ending in number 4 that tie Art Nouveau’s Alphonse Mucha to his success and a presence in the UnitedStates? In Paris in December 1894, he was commissioned to produce his first poster for actress Sarah Bernhart for her play, Gismonda, and that made Mucha famous overnight. In 1904, Mucha was hosted by the Chicago Institute of Art where he taught for six years. We are excited that his art will be on view at our Museum in the summer of 2024!
