Easter Eggs Pozdišovce Design

Pottery-making with over 600-year tradition ceased several decades ago in the Pozdišovce village area, located in Eastern Slovakia. The pottery has been known as ‘pozdišovská keramika’ and our Museum is thrilled to have been gifted several excellent examples of vases and platters for our collections. It is a delight to see that the typical designs have been revived through the art of Easter eggs decorating. The signature designs with simple geometrics, natural motifs or karička (girls and/or boys dancing in circle) stand out on the typical black background.

The egg decor was created by pin wax method on a hollowed real goose or chicken egg by a Slovak folk artist. Chicken eggs come with or without a ribbon loop, and either in black or orange background.
